Tere Figueras Negrete (she/her/ella) is Senior Director of Press Forward South Florida. She leads efforts to strengthen and sustain local news and information across the region – and ensure people have access to the knowledge they need to navigate their daily lives, keep their leaders responsive and accountable, and stay connected to their communities.

Tere brings more than two decades of experience in journalism, strategic communications and mission-driven work building partnerships and amplifying impact in the nonprofit and philanthropic sector.

A Miami native, she has deep roots in the 305: She spent 15 years at the Miami Herald as an award-winning writer and editor, covering beats ranging from breaking news to local politics, and leading teams of community news reporters across the county. Before joining The Miami Foundation in March 2026, she served as senior communications director for The Funders Network, a philanthropy network comprised of more than 110 place-based, regional, and national foundations committed to advancing communities that are equitable, prosperous and sustainable. Earlier in her career, she also led community outreach and special projects for Jackson Health System, South Florida’s largest public healthcare network and a critical safety net for the region.

A proud graduate of Florida International University’s journalism school, Tere serves on the board of O, Miami, on the Advisory Council for the Center for Disaster Philanthropy, and as a member of the Esserman-Knight Journalism Awards selection committee.
