2019 LGBTQ Community Fund Grant Recipients

The LGBTQ Community Fund aims to improve the quality of life for LGBTQ residents in Greater Miami by investing in communities with shifting needs, supporting those facing the most challenging circumstances, and investing in the capacity of organizations seeking to make a difference in the lives of people in the LGBTQ community. These grant awards are made possible thanks to a partnership with the National LGBTQ Task Force.

Vulnerable Populations – $165,500

 

Affirming Youth Foundation

To provide psycho-education, trauma recovery, and social supportive care for LGBTQ African American and Hispanic youth in Liberty City and Little Haiti ($10,000)

Aqua Foundation for Women

To support TransCon, an annual conference for the trans and nonbinary community ($12,500)

Equality Florida Institute

To create a culture of inclusion and respect in Miami-Dade County Public Schools by implementing programs in support of LGBTQ students ($12,500)

FOO SOCIETY

To meet the unique needs of the South Florida LGBTQ adolescent community, especially transgender individuals ($5,000)

Jewish Community Services of South Florida

To provide a virtual option to LGBTQ seniors who are either homebound or unable to access transportation to participate in Lambda Living programs ($15,000)

Latinos Salud

To provide free, comprehensive sexually transmitted disease (STD) screenings to underserved Latino gay men in Miami-Dade County ($15,000)

Lotus House

To support the Rainbow Lotus Program, which assists LGBTQ individuals who are experiencing homelessness ($12,500)

Maven Leadership Collective

To mitigate social determinants of health through support for the Maven Resilience Initiative, a resource for queer and trans people of color to access self-care, peer support and collective wellness activities ($7,500)

Miami Bridge

To support a full-time LGBTQ Family Specialist to work with LGBTQ youth and families through community-based and shelter programs ($12,500)

No More Tears

To assist and empower members of the LGBTQ community who are victims of domestic violence and human trafficking ($10,000)

Prevention 305

To support Project UPTAKE (United Peers Take Action to Knockout the Epidemic), a digital, peer-based strategy for PrEP education and referrals targeting Latinx and black gay or bisexual men and transgender women ($7,500)

Pridelines

To support holistic health and wellness activities for Miami’s LGBTQ youth, particularly those who are actively experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness ($12,500)

Survivors Pathway

To provide trauma-informed mental health services to LGBTQ people who are victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and sex trafficking ($10,000)

The Pet Project for Pets

To enable members of the LGBTQ community who are elderly, disabled and/or HIV/AIDS survivors to keep their pets ($5,000)

Up2Us Sports

To support LGBTQ sensitivity training for coach-mentors to provide increasingly intentional mentoring through sports to LGBTQ youth and create safe, inclusive spaces for fitness ($8,000)

YES Institute

To support in-school educational programs to resolve anti-gay bullying incidents, decrease gender-based stereotyping and violence and equip youth to create safe, welcoming school environments ($10,000)

 

Social Justice & Legal Advocacy – $32,500

 

Freedom Fund

To support low-income LGBTQ community participants formerly held in pretrial and immigration detention by providing case management and HIV/AIDS treatment services ($15,000)

Lawyers for Children America

To match LGBTQ youth in foster care with lawyers who provide holistic legal representation in dependency court and other legal matters ($10,000)

SAVE Foundation

To grow the Business Equality Network to uplift the narrative that the equal treatment of LGBTQ people is good for business and foster increasingly inclusive work settings ($7,500)

 

Arts & Culture – $21,000

 

Area Stage Company

To use theatre as a medium for local LGBTQ artists to express themselves and their personal narratives through a series of free staged readings ($10,000)

Miami Beach Gay Pride

To support Miami Beach Pride 2020, a signature annual event for the South Florida LGBTQ community ($5,500)

Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival

To support community building via an inclusive LGBTQ film festival with specific outreach efforts to questioning and ostracized youth, the elderly, those facing active discrimination, those with health challenges, and people with disabilities ($5,500)
