When a disaster hits, we want every neighborhood in Miami to be able to spring into action and access resources immediately.
The Disaster Resilience Fund is a unified and proactive approach that will support nonprofits working to advance disaster preparedness, provide grants for relief efforts to frontline grassroots organizations in advance of a disaster and invest in long-term equitable recovery.
Reports show that for every $1 invested in community disaster preparedness, $6 in community savings is produced. The Fund is a permanent, revolving fund that aims to raise $20 million to deploy grants in the following ways:
- Annual Preparedness Grants: Investments in the organizations working to advance equitable resilience-building, community education, and preparedness.
- Pre-Disaster Stabilization Grants: Reserve funds to deploy to frontline organizations in advance of a disaster event.
- Post-Disaster Recovery Grants: Reserve funds to support long-term equitable recovery.
As a part of this initiative, a network of community organizations that support disaster efforts throughout Greater Miami are working together to leverage resources and information.
