The Miami Foundation, in partnership with The LGBTQ Task Force and Our Fund, leverages the LGBTQ+ Equity Fund to respond to the needs of the LGBTQIA+ community and invest in opportunities that promote equity, prosperity and health in South Florida. The goal for this fund is to increase the scale and impact of philanthropic resources dedicated towards enhancing the well-being, safety and resilience of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer communities in South Florida.

For the past 16 years, The Miami Foundation has been grateful to collaborate with the National LGBTQ Task Force to strengthen the local LGBTQ community. Each year, the Task Force donates proceeds from its Miami-based fundraising events and The Miami Foundation collaborates with a steering committee of local LGBTQ residents to effectively donate the funds back to the community to improve the quality of life for all LGBTQ residents, particularly our community’s most vulnerable populations.

In 2022, The Miami Foundation is proud to welcome Our Fund as a partner in this effort in response to the increase of threats to the safety and personal liberties of the LGBTQIA+ community to expand the availability of resources in Miami and support organizations advocating on behalf of the community. Today, the collaborative supports the LGBTQ Equity Fund, in partnership with The Miami Foundation, to inform strategy and provide recommendations for community investment.

Since its inception in 2005, the LGBTQ Fund has invested over than $500,000 in unrestricted support to organizations that advocate for the needs of the LGBTQIA+ Community, provide critical health resources, and create safe spaces for youth who identify as LGBTQIA+. In 2024 The Miami Foundation engaged in several listening sessions to deepen our understanding of the community’s most pressing needs.

The Miami Foundation has partnered with the LGBTQ Task Force and Our Fund to support organizations responding to the most pressing needs impacting the LGBTQIA+ community. In response to what was learned in our community, the LGBTQ+ Equity Fund will be leveraged to support the strengthening and expansion of resources that support LGBTQIA+ youth who experience homelessness in Miami-Dade.

Awards made from the LGBTQIA Equity Fund in 2024 will support youth, specifically those aged 18-24, who need safe and sustainable housing, both temporary and transitional.
