On May 22-31, 2017, local community initiative Connect Miami will officially launch with 10 Days of Connection, a 10-day challenge for everyone in Miami to step out of their comfort zones and connect with people who are unlike them. Community members are invited to build the movement through participation in and hosting of “connection experiences,” as well as individual engagement in the initiative’s “10 Days of Connection Challenge.” All locals are invited to host or participate, and free resources and a full calendar are available on the Connect Miami website.

The idea for Connect Miami was conceived in late 2016 when leaders from five Miami organizations heard locals expressing a need for stronger relationships, deeper understanding, widespread kindness, and increased empathy. Stephanie Sylvestre (The Children’s Trust), Roberta Shevin (MCCJ), Rebecca Mandelman and Matthew Beatty (The Miami Foundation), Nancy Ancrum (Miami Herald), and Claudia Grillo (United Way of Miami-Dade) came together and decided to take action. The result was a challenge to everyone in Miami-Dade County to build meaningful relationships across lines of difference.

“When we connect with people who are a bit, or a lot, different than us, we learn a great deal about ourselves and the world we share, ” Claudia Grillo, chief operating officer, United Way of Miami-Dade, said.

Connect Miami and 10 Days of Connection are sponsored by The Children’s Trust, MCCJ, The Miami Foundation, Miami Herald, and United Way of Miami-Dade and are being produced by Radical Partners.

Daniel: Hope that you short film help to the people to undenstant how important is to get along with other community, cultures and nationalities. When people do not accept other cultures ,they suffer their self because they can not tolerate to leave with individuals that do not have the same education and custom. The consequences are terrible because end in violence.
