Chief Financial Officer
Carlos A. Abaúnza is Chief Financial Officer at The Miami Foundation. He leads all financial and fiscal management aspects of the Foundation’s operations. His role includes providing leadership and coordination in the business planning, accounting, finance and budgeting work of the Foundation. Carlos joined the Foundation in 2016 and has over 30 years of experience in finance, accounting, treasury, taxation, risk management, information technology and human resources.
Before joining the Foundation, he was Chief Financial Officer of I-595 Express, LLC, where he helped oversee the successful execution of the design, build, finance, operations and maintenance of the $1.7 billion project for the construction and operation of the new I-595 highway in Broward County. Carlos also has held senior finance and accounting positions at Florida East Coast Industries, Knight Ridder and World Fuel Services Corporation, and served as director and chairman of the audit committee for The American-Nicaraguan Foundation (ANF).
Carlos has his master’s degree in business administration, a master’s degree in accounting and a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant and Chartered Global Management Accountant, and lives in the Coral Gables area. In addition to his past involvement with ANF, Carlos volunteers in the VITA program.
